This fall the University of Arkansas will launch the Arkansas Music Initiative which will include a commitment of $1 million in scholarship support over the next five years for students planning to study music at the university.
Funding for the band program has been very strong over the years and every member of the Arkansas band programs no matter what band they are in is eligible to receive some form of scholarship support. About 350 students receive a general scholarship.
With this new initiative the university is able to award 10 scholarships worth $5,000 each to incoming music majors from Arkansas. Ten incoming freshmen are already set to receive these scholarships this fall.
This is a great opportunity for incoming members of the Razorback Band to receive incredible scholarship support which helps alleviate the financial burdens on their families.
It is refreshing to see a school push so much money into the band program for student support. Maybe someone finally realized that the most likely future big donors to the school will probably be the engineers, doctors and business professionals in the band rather than the athletes.
WOO PIG SOOIE!
