HBCU Band Powerhouse MEAC Suspends Fall Sports

TBlue Line Media Imagehe Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has officially suspended fall athletics for the 2020 school year due to the coronavirus.

This is a big blow to HBCU band fans as some of the biggest and best bands march in the MEAC. The bands impacted are Bethune Cookman, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, Delaware State, Howard, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.

This was set to be the last year for North Carolina A&T, Florida A&M and Bethune Cookman in the conference as NC A&T heads to the Big South while FAMU and Bethune are set to join the SWAC in 2021.

Blue Line Media Image"Obviously this is an arduous decision because everyone wants to have a fall season for student-athletes, fans and other," said MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas. " Part of our responsibility is to ensure the mental and physical health and safety of our student athletes, coaches and staff is paramount.
It is imperative that everyone recognize that is our first and foremost responsibility"

There is a chance they will move fall sports to the spring, but nothing has officially been decided yet.
